Job Description:

The City of Pasadena is seeking talented, creative, passionate, and experienced instructors to develop and teach classes and workshops in a variety of program areas such as recreation, sports, fitness and wellness, arts and crafts, dance, drama, music, science, computers, and nature for school age children.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops and teaches assigned classes and workshops in recreation program areas such as arts and crafts, dance, drama, music, science, computers, nature, fitness and wellness, and sports for youth and/or adults.
  • Implements programming and provides positive reinforcement to encourage a fun and supportive environment; establishes, and maintains cohesive group participation.
  • Adjusts and continually improves material flexibility in response to student needs, innovations in the field, and technological delivery options.
  • Provides supervision in the absence of the Site Coordinator; provides support to other recreation sites as needed.
  • Determines and recommends supplies and equipment needed for assigned classes; transports and ensures the security of equipment and supplies issued.
  • Continually observes and takes the necessary precautions to ensure the safety and security of program participants.
  • Promotes good public relations for the City; builds community relations with park, afterschool site, and/or community center patrons, participants, community and other City Departments.
  • Maintains records (attendance reports, progress reports, program planning proposals and accident reports) and submits reports in a timely manner.

Requirements:

  • Professional & Technical Expertise – Knowledge of the process in developing and instructing effective recreational classes and activities; equipment, supplies, and rules used in typical sports, outdoor education/adventures, and recreation activities.

  • A minimum of one year of recent experience teaching recreational activities in one of the program areas listed above or one year of education in Recreation/Physical Education or related field, or combination.
  • Individuals with two or more years of recent experience teaching recreation activities for youth and/or adults will be deemed most qualified.
