Job Description

The North West Trunk Road Unit spans some 1,422km of trunk road through some of the most scenic parts of the country. It also includes 1,501 bridges and structures, including the Kessock Bridge which carries the A9 north of Inverness and the A87 Skye Crossing.

The North West Unit covers a huge area of Scotland, from Thurso and Wick in the very north of the Highlands down to Campbeltown in Argyll and Bute, from Uig on Skye to Perth and Stirling in the central belt.

As part of the Landscape Design Team the Landscape Inspector will carry out a range of inspections on landscape assets and assist with surveys for the preparation of landscape schemes. An element of design for the repair of landscape defects and problems will be undertaken.

Responsibilities:

  • Undertake regular inspections of the landscape assets in the North West Unit.
  • Undertake detailed surveys of landscape assets where defects are identified by other BEAR Scotland inspection staff or members of the public.
  • Undertake ad hoc inspections as instructed by the Design Team Leader to assist in the preparation of landscape schemes.
  • Liaise with members of the public regarding issues or complaints regarding landscape assets as required.
  • Carry out minor operations on landscape assets where safe to do so.

Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of landscape inspection procedures.
  • Knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation.\
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office products (Excel, Word and Outlook).
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team.
