Position Title:Landfill Gate Attendant

Job Description:
This is a full-time, FLSA non-exempt position with Carson City Public Works. Under immediate supervision, provides service to landfill customers by providing directions, explaining policies, collecting payments and obtaining necessary documentation; interacts with and provides standard information to the public.
Responsibilities:
- Performs data entry to establish account classifications, procedures and pertinent information.
- Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with the public and City staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.
- Secure and lock facility at closing; perform basic clean-up and maintenance as required.
- Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit’s service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as a member of a work team.
- Collects and processes fees and signature cards for billing; utilizes credit/debit card equipment as required.
- Uses standard office equipment, including a computer, in the course of the work.
- Provides information and guidance regarding department policies and procedures; resolves issue and complaints.
- Prepares daily cash summary, balances daily monies received and assigns transactions to proper account, balances cash drawer, prepares daily deposits.
- Maintains accurate records and files; assists in the maintenance of official City records; compiles information and prepares special and periodic reports related to the work performed.
- Enters and retrieves data and prepares reports using a computer; reviews such reports for accuracy and makes corrections as required; operates standard office equipment.
- Inspects incoming loads to determine proper classification of cargo; directs customers to appropriate dumping sites.
- Assists customers by providing information, explaining procedures and answering inquiries in person and over the telephone.
- Keeps basic records of work performed, time sheets, etc.
- Observes safe working practices, including maintaining work areas in a safe condition.
Requirements:
- Use of specified computer applications involving word processing, data entry and/or standard report generation.
- Correct business English, including spelling, grammar and punctuation.
- Financial record keeping and bookkeeping practices and techniques.
- Policies and procedures of the landfill unit.
- Office administrative practices and procedures.
- Business arithmetic.
- Techniques for dealing with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, in person and over the telephone.
- Record keeping principles and practices.
- Correct business English, including spelling, grammar and punctuation.
