Job Description:
The Houston Parks and Recreation Department is dedicated to building a sustainable community and enhancing the quality of urban life by providing safe well-maintained parks and offering affordable programming for our community. To achieve this mission, HPARD is seeking a Field Supervisor to join its Greenspace Management team.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate, participate and monitor teams of 3-5 permanent employees along with additional temporary assistance in the form of probationers, seasonal employees, part-time employees or volunteers to maintain a group of parks and street medians.
- Analyze and resolve staff, equipment and operating problems and recommend changes to increase efficiency.
- Efficiently delegate tasks to balance workload and resources.
- Conduct inspections of parks and document work orders needed to repair/improve the facility.
- Maintain various records including statistics of labor, material and equipment resources on work executed.
- Set goals, train, motivate and periodically evaluate crew member performance to improve performance.
- Maintain accurate records to support decisions.
- Ensure that employees have adequate work supplies and properly functioning equipment in order to perform assigned tasks.
- Oversee preventative maintenance of assigned vehicles, equipment and tools and is held accountable for equipment.
- Observe safety regulations and ensure that the crew does the same.
- Perform other duties and activities that may be required during the course of operation.
- This position requires the Field Supervisor to be hands on in the field with his/her crew members.
Requirements:
- Basic knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation and simple mathematical functions like percentages, ratios, etc. as might normally be acquired through attainment of a high school diploma or a GED.

Four years of progressively responsible work experience in the maintenance field are required.A Bachelor’s degree in a related field may be substituted for the experience requirement.
- Must have a valid Driver’s License and comply with the City of Houston’s policy on driving (AP 2-2).
- Applicants with experience in Grounds Maintenance/landscaping experience are highly preferred.
