Position Title: Fleet Competence

Job Description:

Reporting to the Fleet Engineering Manager, you will have overall responsibility for the competence assessment, mentoring and development of our fleet engineering team, in line with railway group standards and EMR competence management systems (CMS). A key part of your role will see you collaborating with stakeholders across the business to introduce a new CMS software system to Fleet Engineering. You will also deputise for the Fleet Engineering Manager as required.

Responsibilities: 

  • Ensuring the knowledge and standards of our assessors are up to a high standard, undertaking mentoring assessments and providing support to them as required
  • Regular auditing of the CMS system and associated external suppliers as required
  • Carrying out investigations, making recommendations for retraining or assessment where
  • competence is not found to be up to standard and addressing any deficiencies in CMS
  • Working with local management to share competence and training data to inform succession planning and team development
  • Developing and maintaining the EMR Fleet Competence Management System (CMS) to meet all
  • current legislation and railway standards and driving its continuous improvement
  • Providing regular reporting on fleet engineering competence status and any required improvement measures
  • Owning and developing the fleet training strategy and plan, building training requirements into the CMS to ensure team members are trained to standard
  • Implementing a suite of KPIs to monitor quality and overall skill of the fleet team, using this data to change the CMS to address issues as needed
  • Continuously reviewing training and competence best practice across the industry and bringing in changes to drive improvements at EMR

Reqirements:

  • IT literate, fluent in Microsoft Office suite
  • Process-orientated, with a methodical approach
  • Educated to HNC/HND level in a Mechanical or Electrical Engineering discipline
  • Competent as On Call Engineer including vehicle recovery technique
  • Able to direct, motivate and develop others to achieve results
  • Highly knowledgeable in competence management systems and able to guide others in their delivery
  • A great all-round communicator, effective at engaging with, listening to, and building relationships with stakeholders across different functions and in our depots
  • Data driven; able to evaluate, interpret and present data to share key information and develop solutions
