Position Title: Fire Equipment Mechanic

Job Description:
This is skilled repair work on automotive and construction equipment used in Akron Public Schools. An employee in this class is responsible for skilled repair and preventive maintenance of a wide variety of automotive and construction equipment; including, but not limited to: installing parts, changing tires, cutting and welding, painting equipment and performing body repair.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure safety of students.
- Evaluate complaints received on equipment and supplies and take appropriate action.
- Complete paperwork as required by supervisor. Promote good safety practices and procedures.
- Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversation.
- Work cooperatively with others. Exercise considerable independent judgment in carrying out assignments.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area. Supervise automotive mechanic helpers on large repairs.
- Mix, Blend, and spray automotive paints. Interact in a positive manner with staff, students and parents.
- Make contacts with the public with tact and diplomacy.
- Diagnose and perform skilled repair and preventive maintenance on automotive equipment.
- Perform shielded arc welding, oxyacetylene welding and cutting.
Requirements:
- Skill in diagnosing and repairing automotive, construction, and related equipment.
- Skill in the use of computers with standard and customized software.
- Ability to read, comprehend, and apply new and relevant technical information.
- Ability to perform maintenance and repair on buildings, property and equipment.
- Ability to safely operate motor vehicles and fire automotive equipment.
- Ability to work extended hours including weekends and holidays.
