Job Description:
The Competitive Sports Outreach AmeriCorps Member will serve alongside the Youth Sports and Recreation Supervisor to improve the program with volunteer management, youth and adult sports programming, event planning, program development and evaluation, and outreach to the Davenport youth and adult population. The Competitive Sports Outreach AmeriCorps Member must be able to serve flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
Responsibilities:
- Develop a plan for providing outreach to the youth and adults in our community about competitive sports activities in Davenport.
- Contact potential people in the community to volunteer as sports officials at weekly games and tournaments.
- Guide and direct sports officials at weekly games and tournaments by providing increased support to volunteer coaches through rule clarification, training and enforcing safety procedures.
- Create and distribute the following documents to all participants, coaches, coordinators or schools
Requirements:
- Post-secondary education and training in the field of education, recreation, human service, child development, psychology, social work or related field
- Experience working with children and youth in a school setting
- Understanding of best practices in child development, behavior management, developmentally appropriate activities, child safety, etc.
