Job Description:

The Adaptive & Inclusive Recreation AmeriCorps Member will serve alongside the Adaptive & Inclusive Recreation Supervisor to provide additional assets and resources to the department through data collection, event planning, program development and evaluation, and outreach to the at-risk youth, and individuals with disabilities populations.

Responsibilities:

• Develop educational outreach to the general community about people with disabilities to improve the understanding, acceptance and inclusion.
• Support at-risk youth during School Out Day events through positive adult interactions, recreational activities, lunch-time learning activities and encouraging peer engagement.
• Attend field trip activities to enhance child safety, as well as expand upon the child’s knowledge of community resources.
• Act as a role model exhibiting appropriate behavior including civic responsibility, community action, constructive participation, and relationship building.

Requirements:

• Post-secondary education and training in the field of education, recreation, human service, child development, psychology, social work or related field
• Experience working with children and youth in a school setting
• Understanding of best practices in child development, behavior management, developmentally appropriate activities, child safety, etc.
